Annual cardiology appointment 2026

Day 1,438.

I have just had my annual cardiology appointment, and the cardiologist was really cautious about changing my treatment as the rheumatologist suggested.

A surrealist illustration

What’s new

We spoke about how I have been since my last appointment a year ago. I have been feeling really well. Except for the VT arrhythmia last August when I was about to drive with my son in the car. Or the chest pain I have been having. But those really have been in the minority.

It was a new registrar I saw this time. He was extremely factual and serious. But I prefer a serious cardiologist to one who does not take my concerns seriously. He consulted with the attending cardiologist about how I am doing, and about tapering my treatment over time - as the rheumatologist is suggesting.

The registrar was not a fan of changing my medication at all. There was a lot of frowning. I have already completely stopped taking Methotrexate. Cardiology wants me to have another PET scan before we change the medication mix any further. They also seemed hesitant to reduce the Prednisone dosage, which would be the next step in my treatment plan.

Moving cities

I shared my plans about moving to Auckland. The registrar and cardiologist already have a cardiologist in mind in Auckland, and they will give this doctor a heads up. With this being public health in New Zealand, I will need to be referred to the new DHB by my new GP after the move.

That is quite stressful to plan logistically. Less from a cardiology point of view, as I don't have anything time critical right now. But I do have the Infliximab infusions every 6 weeks. I would hate to have a gap in treatment.

All I can do is try and line up my appointments before and after the move.
